Student Handbook

Academic Information

The time and duration of the class:
All classes are held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons starting at 7:00 pm and ending at 9:00 pm. Our Saturday sessions are from 2pm to 6pm. Each class is 55 minutes long and each quarter is approximately 8 weeks in length.

Each class will start immediately. If you are late, please sit in the back of the class to avoid being disruptive to the professor and the other students.

Class 1 will start at 7:00 pm and end at 7:55
Class 2 will begin at 8:05 and end at 9:00 pm

There is a 10-minute break provided between classes so students can use the bathroom, take a drink of water, and stretch their legs. Please take advantage of this time and do take care of those matters during the break and not during the class.

Ministry Hours:

Each sophomore is required to earn five or more ministry hours per quarter in order to receive credit for that quarter. Hours may be obtained as the student volunteers in any form of ministry that has been approved by the Director. You will be required to record the form of ministry and the time you were involved with the ministry. You also must have the signature of your immediate supervisor. Excessive hours of ministry will be moved to the next quarter only.

Evaluation system:

The grading system at ASM will be done by grade letter using the 4-point system. They are set as follows:

Grade                                                                Scores                                                                            GPA
A                                                                         100-92                                                                          4.0-3.6
B                                                                         91-83                                                                            3.5 -2.7
C                                                                         82-74                                                                            2.6 -1.8
D                                                                         73-65                                                                            1.7-0.9
F                                                                         64-0                                                                               0.8-0.0

Any grade lower than 74 and GPA of 1.8 or lower is a suspension and the student will not receive credit for the class. In order to receive credit for the course, the student must retake the course and pass with a 74 or a GPA of 1.8 or higher. In order to receive a one year certificate you must have 16 credits and to receive a two year diploma you must have 32 credits and have 5 ministry hours documented for each of the last four quarters. Anyone who does not meet these requirements will not receive a certificate / diploma.

Exams:

The exams are selected and given by each instructor. There will be a final exam for each class on the last night of the quarter. Each exam will have a minimum of 25 questions.

Registration and Tuition:

Registration and Tuition must be paid one week before the start of each quarter. Tuition must be paid in full before you are allowed to take the final exams. If there is a financial need please see the Director.

Anyone wishing to take individual classes without being in the 2-year diploma program can do so. The cost is $50 per course. We encourage all who can’t be in the 2 year program to take classes while they are available.

Refund Policy:

If for any reason a student withdraws from school after enrollment, tuition will be pro-rated and the refund will be mailed to the payer within 30 days or applied to the next semester; if the student so prefers. In order to receive a refund, the student must officially withdraw upon written request. The reimbursement will be determined by the number of classes that have taken place before the withdrawal and the price of the class materials that the student has received.

Cell Phone Policy:

Please turn off all cell phones, or set them to “silent mode” to avoid interruption of classes..

Dress Policy:

The dress code for ASM is just decent clothing please. No shorts, halters, tank tops or mini skirts. We do not want someone’s attire to be harmful or offensive to others. This is also a non-smoking facility.

Attendance Policy:

The ASM attendance policy reflects on the importance of fulfilling God’s purpose for each individual. You can’t learn and mature, if you are constantly absent from class.
Each course has approximately eight 55-minute classes. Each student may have 2 absences per class per semester. Any absence of 3 or more classes will not receive credit for the class, nor will you be allowed to take the final exam. If there is an emergency or difficulty that arises, please see the principal for assistance.
Being late to any class is greatly discouraged. Arriving to class after it has started is detrimental to the instructor and other students. If you are late, please take a seat in the back of the classroom to avoid being disruptive. Arriving late twice will be equal to an absence. Students should not leave the classroom after the class has started; except in an emergency. There will be a 10-minute break between classes each night.

Each student is required to attend religious services regularly at a church of his or her choice.

Classroom Etiquette:

Students should not speak during class. If you have a question, write it down and ask the instructor during the question and answer period or give it to him/her after class. The instructor will try his / her best to answer your question promptly. We ask that you do not talk to other students during the class, as this is not only detrimental to the student but also to the whole class. We are here to help you mature within the body of believers, but you must have established guidelines in order to make it possible. We want to get the maximum profit from each class and we can only do that with your help. Please make sure to clean your desk before you leave.

Class CDs:

Each class will be recorded for the benefit of our students. CDs will be made available to our registered students at the cost of $ 5.00 per CD.

You must pay for the CD at the time of ordering. These CDs are not meant to be used as a correspondence course for unregistered students. Please do not duplicate and distribute these CDs. Your purchase of the CD is in concurrence with this policy.

Food and drink:

In order to provide a good learning environment, we ask that you do not bring the food into the classroom. We also ask that you bring only drinks with a lid that can be closed in order to avoid spills. We must be good stewards of the space that God has provided and not cause unnecessary problems that food and drinks can cause when not properly disposed; such as insects and stained carpet.

Visitors:

Please do not bring visitors to class with you. This can be an interruption to other students and is also unfair to the visitor; as they have not had the privilege of hearing the teaching that preceded that night. Bringing unexpected visitors is generally not conducive to a good learning environment. If someone is interested in being a student, please ask them to call (413) 883-4893 and speak with the Principal.

By registering as a student and attending classes, you are implying an agreement with all rules and regulations established by ASM.
